In the harbor scene where Miles Bron's guests gather for the boat to his private island, Kathryn Hahn plays the arrival in a beige blazer, a tinted visor, and a face mask tugged down to talk, and on her raised left wrist sits a small steel watch on a link bracelet. Claire is the governor of Connecticut, running for the United States Senate, one of the old friends Bron flies in for his murder mystery weekend in Rian Johnson's Glass Onion (2022), the first of the two Knives Out sequels Netflix bought for 469 million dollars. Beside her on the dock, Kate Hudson's Birdie Jay wears a white hat roughly the diameter of a cafe table. Claire's entire look could pass through a press conference unremarked.

The watch is a Cartier Tank Française in stainless steel, and the harbor light catches everything that defines it: the squared case with rounded brancards flowing straight into the chain-link bracelet, a pale dial with Roman numerals, small proportions on her wrist. Cartier launched the Française in 1996 as the first Tank designed from the start around an integrated metal bracelet rather than a strap, and it became one of the house's biggest commercial successes. Jenny Eagan, the film's costume designer, built most of the wardrobe from scratch because a Greek island shoot during Covid left nowhere to shop, and she dressed Bron's circle in clothes that are 'incredibly expensive but they don't look it.' A small steel Cartier on a politician is that idea exactly: the money reads only to people who already know what they are looking at.

Claire's compromise is specific. She and Lionel have staked their reputations on Klear, Bron's dangerous new fuel, and like the rest of the group she testified falsely when Andi Brand sued him.
