Midway through Glass Onion, Rian Johnson's 2022 mystery, Peg stands in the sculpture room of Miles Bron's glass mansion on a private Greek island, red plastic cup in hand. On her left wrist sits a small black resin digital watch. Peg, played by Jessica Henwick, is assistant to Birdie Jay, the former supermodel turned fashion designer who spends the film needing Bron's money to survive the fallout from her brand's sweatshop scandal.
When Oracle of Time wrote up the film's watches as characters in their own right, it worked through Benoit Blanc's Omega Seamaster 1948, Claire Debella's Cartier Tank Française, and Duke Cody's gold Panerai Submersible, and never reached Peg. No watch publication has. The identification happened in the audience instead: Casio fans on Reddit spotted the watch mid-movie, one of them admitting to spending the whole film looking at her wrist, and the spotting sites filed it as an F-91W, give or take a variant letter. What the screen gives you is the silhouette. The flat rectangular case and thin resin strap are the F-91W's exactly; the dial never comes close enough to read.
Casio introduced the F-91W in June 1989, the first design Ryusuke Moriai did for the company. It has a resin case with a steel back, runs the Module 593 quartz movement, and its single button cell is rated for seven years. By 2026, Casio had produced one hundred million of them, which makes it the most sold watch in the world.
