Dave Bautista wears a Panerai Submersible

Duke Cody arrives on Miles Bron's private Greek island with a pistol tucked into his waistband and a gold Panerai on his wrist. Dave Bautista plays him in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) as a video game streamer and men's rights activist with a Twitch channel, a girlfriend named Whiskey who doubles as his channel assistant, and a plan: he wants Bron to give him a show on Alpha News, and like the rest of the group he once testified falsely in court to keep the billionaire's favor. The evidence frame here is his last scene. Duke clutches his throat with the watch hand, the drink that is killing him still in the other, while Whiskey watches from the doorway. Bron has dosed him with pineapple juice, which Duke is deathly allergic to, because Duke saw something he tried to turn into blackmail. His pistol then goes missing, and it resurfaces in Bron's hand.

The watch is a Panerai Submersible Goldtech OroCarbo, reference PAM01070. Goldtech is Panerai's own case alloy, gold blended with copper and platinum to produce what DMARGE described as 'a lustrous bronze-like red hue while being resistant to any oxidisation and corrosion when exposed to sweat or seawater,' and the bezel top is Carbotech, 'compressed carbon fibre combined with a high-tech, lightweight polymer.' In the death-scene frame the watch is unmistakable even mid-poisoning: cushion case in warm gold, black bezel with the Submersible's luminous dots, black dial, black strap, riding a fully tattooed forearm against a gold baroque shirt. Oracle Time read the choice as 'another element of his ultra-masculine façade,' and the contrast inside the ensemble does most of that work: Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc wears an Omega Seamaster 1948 Co-Axial Master Chronometer Petite Seconde in 38 millimeters, a small vintage-styled dress diver, while Duke wears a gold carbon-trimmed dive watch the size of his online persona.

DMARGE headlined its identification 'a big watch that's easy to miss,' which fits a film that hides its clues in plain sight. The watch outlived the character in one respect: the same article notes Bautista has been seen wearing it on the red carpet, too.
