Robert Loggia reprises General Grey in Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), twenty years after the original. His screen time is brief. Loggia died in December 2015, six months before the film's release, making this one of his final appearances on screen. The watch is unidentified.

The sequel made $389 million worldwide but felt like a film assembled by committee, lacking the goofy self-awareness that made the 1996 original work despite itself. Loggia's General Grey was a supporting presence in both films — the military authority behind the curtain — and his appearance here is more tribute than performance, a way for the production to acknowledge the original cast. Loggia had a long career that ran through Scarface (1983), Big (1988), and an Emmy-nominated turn in Malcolm in the Middle. An unidentified watch in a sequel to a film about alien invasions does not begin to represent what he did across fifty years of work.
