Bill Pullman returns as former President Whitmore in Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), older and partly unmoored by the psychic link to the aliens he has carried since the first film's invasion. On his wrist is a Hamilton Thin-O-Matic in 18-karat yellow gold, an older model the brand had already discontinued by the time the film came out.

It was one of four Hamiltons placed across the film, and the dressiest of them. The working pilots and officers got steel tool watches, the Khaki X-Wind and the Khaki Pilot; the former president got the gold one. Hamilton has done this for decades: the brand long traced its movie history to The Frogmen in 1951, then recognized an earlier turn in Shanghai Express (1932), where Clive Brook's captain opens a Hamilton to reveal a hidden photo of Marlene Dietrich.
