Twenty years after the original, Roland Emmerich returned to blow up the same landmarks again. Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) imagines a world that reverse-engineered alien technology after the 1996 invasion, building a planetary defense network and moon bases. Liam Hemsworth plays Jake Morrison, a hot-shot fighter pilot with a disciplinary record and a chip on his shoulder, the exact character template you'd expect in a sequel that needs a younger lead but can't let go of Jeff Goldblum. Morrison flies an alien-hybrid fighter jet, disobeys orders, and saves the world. The script doesn't ask much of him beyond looking competent in a cockpit.
The Hamilton Khaki X-Wind on his wrist is an aviation chronograph with a crosswind correction calculator built into the rotating bezel. The X-Wind's busy dial with layered subdials and slide-rule bezel reads as instrument-panel equipment, which makes it a natural fit for a fighter jock. The black dial version Hemsworth wears keeps the readability high and the flash low.
