In the dust and haze, a man in dark glasses lifts a handheld radio to speak, and the watch is a black shape on his wrist. Peter Ferdinando plays Mike in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, Guy Ritchie's 2023 caper about a stolen device called the Handle and the rival teams hired to get it back. Mike runs one of those teams. He works the same job as Jason Statham's Orson Fortune, then goes rogue, ambushes the handover, and tries to sell the thing himself.
The watch is the CWC SBS Diver, reference SF300 QS120-DD, the all-black version. CWC is Cabot Watch Company, the British firm that issues dive watches to the Royal Marines and the Special Boat Service, Britain's naval special forces, and the SBS Diver is the 300-meter watch built for that work. The case is PVD-coated steel, 41 millimeters across, with a sapphire crystal, a screw-down crown, and a day-date window. It runs on a Ronda Swiss-made quartz movement rather than a mechanical one. Military issue went quartz long ago for the plain reason: a battery keeps better time than a mainspring and never needs winding. CWC still sells it for about 750 pounds.
So a watch built to go a thousand feet underwater sits on the wrist of a man standing in the dust with a radio. By CWC's own account the company placed three of its watches in this film: the SBS on Mike, a Pilots Chronograph on Bugzy Malone's J.J. Davies, a Sonar on Cary Elwes's handler. The dive watch went to the one who turns.
