Garber, the subway dispatcher played by Denzel Washington, has spent the morning on the radio with the man who hijacked the Pelham 123 train. Camonetti is the trained man, the NYPD Emergency Service Unit hostage negotiator sent down to take over the call. The shot catches his left wrist near the partition: a round steel watch on a dark leather strap, with a plain light dial, worn under a buttoned blue cuff.

What the watch actually is comes down to one claim. A single watch-spotting site lists the negotiator's piece as an IWC Portugieser, the chronograph version, and no watch publication has taken it up to confirm or correct it. The screen does not settle the matter. At the resolution the shot allows, the dial reads clean, with no chronograph subdials visible, which is the first thing that sits oddly against a chronograph label. The case and the dark strap would suit a Portugieser. They would suit a good many other round dress watches too. No watch publication has confirmed the identification, and the frame is not sharp enough to make it for them.
