Ryder keeps checking his watch. In Tony Scott's The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009), a remake of the 1974 thriller, John Travolta plays Ryder, a disgraced financier who hijacks a New York subway train and gives the city one hour to deliver a ransom, taunting the transit dispatcher Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) over the radio while the clock runs down. The watch is part of the threat. Scott keeps cutting to Ryder's wrist as each deadline approaches.
The watch is a Breitling, which is fitting enough: Travolta is a licensed pilot who has long been associated with Breitling as a brand ambassador. Which Breitling is harder to say, because the film does not keep it consistent. In the close-ups, when Ryder marks the time, his wrist carries a silver-dial, three-hand Breitling Colt. In several wider shots, including this one, he wears a different watch, a dark-dial Breitling chronograph. The brand never reads clearly on screen, so the exact model stays a best guess.
