Jessica Chastain wears an unidentified watch

Maya sits in a federal office, a blue agency seal on the wall behind her and a wall of binders fading into the dark. She wears a plain dark T-shirt under an open fleece vest, her hands clasped low in her lap, looking up and off camera with the coiled stillness of someone listening hard. This is Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow's 2012 account of the decade-long hunt for Osama bin Laden, and Maya is the CIA analyst who spends that decade refusing to let the trail go cold.

The only thing on her wrist is a dark, chunky sports watch, worn low on the left arm. You can see that it is there and very little else. The dial faces away, the case sits in shadow, and no logo or model name resolves at any magnification. The record once called it a Timex Ironman, a cheap digital runner's watch, but no source supports that name, and the only public attempt at an identification is a single forum thread guessing at a Casio Baby-G.

That anonymity may be the point. Maya is a composite character, reportedly built in part from a real CIA officer who spent years on the same hunt, and the costume dresses her for the work rather than for the camera. No watch publication or auction house has ever put a name to the piece, which leaves the most driven person in the room wearing the one watch nobody can identify.
