David Clark sells pot out of a Denver apartment and thinks he has the game figured out. After a robbery wipes him out, his supplier Brad Gurdlinger (Ed Helms) offers debt forgiveness in exchange for one border run: drive an RV full of marijuana across from Mexico. Rawson Marshall Thurber's 2013 comedy turns on David's solution, which is to recruit a stripper (Jennifer Aniston), a runaway (Emma Roberts), and a neighbor's kid (Will Poulter) to pose as his wholesome suburban family. Sudeikis plays David as a guy who thinks fast talking is the same as planning, which is how he ends up in most of his problems.
The watch has not been identified, but whatever it is, it belongs on David's wrist. He is a man operating in the middle of everything: middle income, middle effort, middle ambition. His whole scheme depends on looking ordinary enough to pass a border checkpoint without a second glance. A flashy watch would ruin the cover. No watch at all might seem off for a family-man type. David Clark wears something forgettable because David Clark needs to be forgettable, and the fact that nobody has pinned down the make and model says the prop department understood the assignment.
