Jon Turteltaub's The Meg (2018) is a shark movie that knows what it is. Jason Statham plays Jonas Taylor, a deep-sea rescue diver who once swore he saw a Megalodon, the prehistoric shark everyone agreed had been extinct for millions of years. The movie is about him being right. A diver who works at crushing depths needs a real dive watch, and Statham brought his own.

It is an IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition called La Cumbre Volcano, one of five hundred IWC built, named for a volcano in the Galápagos. The case is 44mm of steel wrapped in black rubber. Inside is a flyback chronograph, and the dive bezel turns only counterclockwise, so a stray knock can never fool a diver into thinking he has more air left than he really does. Statham is a known IWC owner who buys his own and wears them on screen instead of something from the prop department; for Jonas, he wore it on a rubber strap.
