James Badge Dale wears a Rolex Submariner

Tyrone "Rone" Woods was a former Navy SEAL working as a CIA Global Response Staff contractor in Benghazi, and at dawn on September 12, 2012, a mortar round killed him and a second former SEAL, Glen Doherty, on the roof of the CIA annex. James Badge Dale plays him in Michael Bay's 13 Hours. The watch on Dale's wrist is a Rolex Submariner, the modern ceramic Submariner Date that Watches of Espionage calls a "six-digit" reference and Jake's Rolex World identifies as the 116610, its cyclops date bubble clearly visible on screen.

The real Woods wore a different Rolex. Jake's Rolex World, working from photographs Woods took himself, identifies it as a Sea-Dweller reference 16660, the model collectors nickname the "Triple Six": the first Sea-Dweller with a sapphire crystal, and one that doubled the depth rating of the versions before it. The Sea-Dweller has never carried a cyclops, which is the detail that gives the screen watch away as a Submariner. Woods kept it alongside a Panerai Luminor, and in 2010, before he signed on with the Global Response Staff, he went on RolexForums trying to sell both.

Why the film reached for a Submariner instead of the Sea-Dweller he actually owned is not documented. Bay is a known Rolex enthusiast, and Jake's Rolex World offers plain product placement as the likeliest explanation.
