Boyd Holbrook wears a Casio G-Shock

Shane Black has unfinished business with the Predator. He played one of the commandos picked off in the 1987 original, and three decades later he came back to write and direct The Predator (2018). His hero this time is Quinn McKenna, an Army Ranger sniper played by Boyd Holbrook, who survives an encounter with the creature in Mexico, gets buried in a military psych ward to keep him quiet, and breaks out with a busload of damaged veterans. In a kitchen scene, slouched at the counter beside Trevante Rhodes with a coffee cup in hand, McKenna wears the watch you would hope a Ranger would wear: a Casio G-Shock Mudmaster, olive resin strap, the chunky analog case with its armored crown guards riding high on his wrist. The Mudmaster is the mud-and-dust specialist of the G-Shock range, built with reinforced gaskets and sealed buttons to keep grit out of the works and rated to two hundred meters of water resistance. The dial never turns far enough toward the camera to read the exact reference, but the body is pure Mudmaster, the right tool watch for a man about to be dragged through a jungle by something he cannot see.
