In a production still from the film, Andy Sachs, back at Runway as its features editor, crosses a street with a phone at her ear, a pinstriped vest, a bag on one shoulder, and a watch facing the wrong way. The small gold oval of a Cartier Baignoire rides the inside of her left wrist on a brown leather strap, dial turned toward her, leather toward the street. Fashion writers covering the film took the backwards watch as a glimpse of Andy's offbeat sense of style. The film gives her a full rotation, a vintage Sharp, two Bvlgari Bvlgaris, and this Cartier, and the Cartier is the one she wears turned around.

The watch is a Baignoire in yellow gold, reference WGBA0075. Louis Cartier first produced the stretched oval in 1912, and the design reached its familiar silhouette in 1958, but the name did not become official until 1973. Baignoire is usually translated as bathtub, a nod to the case shape. The likelier reference is the baignoire of the opera house, the curved VIP boxes close to the stage.
