Andreas Daniel wears an Omega Speedmaster

In the Montenegro poker game at the center of Casino Royale, the camera spends its time on Bond, on Le Chiffre, and on the money, and almost none on the man dealing the cards. He is played by Andreas Daniel, in what appears to be his only screen credit, and the watch attributed to him is one of the odder choices in a film stuffed with Omega. According to the Bond specialist site James Bond Lifestyle, the dealer wears an Omega Speedmaster "The Legend" Michael Schumacher, reference 3506.61.00, the red-dial version with three black subdials and a self-winding chronometer movement, the caliber 3301. It is not the hand-wound Moonwatch most people picture when they hear "Speedmaster"; it belongs to the automatic Reduced family, a sportier line Omega built around 2004 and 2005 to mark Schumacher's sixth Formula One world title and offered in three colorways. The placement is hard to verify, since the dealer sits in the background and his wrist is never the subject of a clean shot, so this one rests on a single specialist source rather than on a watch you can read on screen. What is easy to verify is the company it keeps. Omega had been the official Bond watch since GoldenEye in 1995, and Casino Royale leans on that partnership hard: Daniel Craig's Bond wears a Seamaster Diver 300M, reference 2220.80.00, and a Planet Ocean 600M, reference 2900.50.91, across the film. A Ferrari-flavored racing chronograph on a Monte Carlo croupier makes very little character sense, which is rather the point. It is there because Omega was everywhere on this production, not because a card dealer needs a tachymeter.
