Val Kilmer wears a Rolex Datejust

In Tony Scott's Top Gun (1986), Val Kilmer plays Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, Maverick's chief rival at the Navy's Fighter Weapons School, the pilot who flies by the book and keeps winning. Kilmer wears Rolex throughout. Watch writers note that Iceman actually appears in more than one: a GMT-Master, most visible during his standoffs with Maverick, and a two-tone Rolex Datejust.

Rolex introduced the Datejust in 1945 as the first self-winding wristwatch with a date that changes automatically on the dial; the Cyclops lens over the date and the fluted bezel became signatures of the line. By the 1980s it was the most recognizable dress watch Rolex made, and the version on Iceman's wrist is the two-tone steel-and-gold.
