Leonard Nimoy directed the highest-grossing film of 1987, and it wasn't a Star Trek sequel. 3 Men and a Baby, a remake of the French comedy Trois hommes et un couffin, put Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson in a Manhattan loft with a baby none of them know how to handle. Selleck plays Peter Mitchell, an architect who is competent in every area of his life except this one. The comedy works because all three men play the incompetence straight.
On Selleck's wrist is what appears to be a two-tone Rolex Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet, consistent with his known personal collection. He's been photographed wearing this same watch from at least 1987 through his later work on Blue Bloods. The Datejust was Rolex's original dress watch, introduced in 1945, and the two-tone steel-and-gold version is exactly the right watch for a successful Manhattan architect in the late 1980s. Some sources also note a Timex Triathlon appearing in the film — Selleck may have switched between the two during production.
