Hale Caesar is the man whose shooting breaks up the team. In Mogadishu he is the one on the ground who directs the Expendables to the drop point, where the arms trader turns out to be Conrad Stonebanks, a co-founder of the unit gone rogue and presumed dead. In the firefight that follows, Stonebanks shoots Caesar, then drops a bomb on the team from his helicopter, and Caesar is left severely injured. Barney blames himself, disbands the Expendables, and goes hunting Stonebanks with younger hires until the veterans return for the rescue. Caesar recovers from his wounds in the aftermath. Terry Crews, billed as the team's barrel weapons specialist, came to the part from the NFL, where he played defensive end and linebacker for the Rams, Chargers, and Redskins before retiring in 1997 and moving to Los Angeles to act.
