Bill Tanner spends Skyfall at M's shoulder, the chief of staff who runs MI6's day to day while the agency comes apart around him, and during Silva's attack on the public inquiry he is the one who pulls M down out of the line of fire. Rory Kinnear plays Tanner across the Daniel Craig films as the competent functionary, the man with the folders and the bad news, and on his wrist in Sam Mendes's 2012 film is the dressiest watch in a movie full of Omegas.
It is an Omega De Ville Hour Vision Annual Calendar, reference 431.33.41.22.02.001, a 41mm steel watch with a silver dial, a date window at three o'clock, and a black leather strap. The annual calendar tracks the date and the month and needs setting only once a year, at the end of February, when the short month breaks the count. It is a desk-and-suit watch, a senior civil servant's piece, deliberately tame next to the dive-rated Seamasters the film straps to Bond.
Omega has dressed the Bond films since GoldenEye in 1995, and Skyfall spread the brand past 007 to the people around him. The reference is logged in the official Bond on Set book, which is the only reason a watch this briefly on screen carries a number at all.
