Roger Moore wears a Seiko H558-5000

The Seiko H558-5000 is better known as the "Arnie", after Arnold Schwarzenegger. It is a chunky ana-digi diver with both analog hands and a digital display, 200 meters of water resistance, and a case large enough to serve as a weapon in a fistfight. John Glen directed A View to a Kill, and the H558-5000 appears in the pre-title sequence where Bond skis through Siberia and escapes on a submarine disguised as an iceberg.

This is the third Seiko in A View to a Kill, the 6923-8080 dress watch for undercover scenes, the 7A28-7020 chronograph for action sequences, and now the H558-5000 for the opening. Four watches in one film, all Seiko, each assigned to a different type of scene. The prop department was essentially rotating through Seiko's catalog to match function to situation. The H558-5000 is the most rugged of the lot, and it gets the most physical scene.

Moore was 57 during filming, and A View to a Kill was his final Bond outing. The Seiko era ends here. The H558-5000 "Arnie" is one of the last watches from an era when Bond's wrist was a Seiko showroom rather than a single-brand statement.
