James Cameron put his name on Sanctum as executive producer, which was enough to get a $30 million Australian cave diving thriller into 3D theaters worldwide in 2011. Alister Grierson directed, but the real author was co-writer Andrew Wight, who based the story on his own near-death experience in an Australian cave in 1988 when a flash flood sealed off his exit. Richard Roxburgh plays Frank McGuire, the obsessive master diver leading an expedition into Papua New Guinea's Esa-ala cave system when a cyclone floods the entrance and forces the team to find an underwater way out.
In this image, Roxburgh stands in the cave beside Rhys Wakefield's Josh, arms crossed, a dive watch visible on his left wrist. It appears to have a dark dial on a dark strap, consistent with a functional dive piece, but it hasn't been identified. Frank is the kind of man who would own a proper dive watch and not care about the brand. He has spent months underground. The watch just needs to work.
