Randy Couture wears a Panerai Submersible

In September 2012, two years before The Expendables 3 reached theaters, the dive watch column at Gear Patrol previewed a new Panerai and closed with a prediction: this one would no doubt be on the wrists of half the cast of The Expendables 3 when they set out to save the world yet again. The prediction held. The watch debuted at the Geneva salon the following January at a price over 11,000 dollars, the film arrived in August 2014, and the census of its wrists found the same Luminor Submersible 1950 Amagnetic 3 Days Automatic Titanio, reference PAM00389, on Statham, Couture, Lundgren, Jet Li, and Crews, alongside Stallone's own.

The model is built around resisting magnetism. The 47 millimeter case is grade 5 titanium, which keeps the weight reasonable and is itself less affected by magnetic fields than steel, and inside it a soft iron cage surrounds the movement. Together they rate the watch to 40,000 amperes per meter. The ratcheting dive bezel carries a ceramic insert, the first in Panerai's history, and the in-house P.9000 runs three days on two mainspring barrels.

Toll Road is billed as the team's demolitions expert and former wrestler, which puts Randy Couture next door to his own resume: three-time UFC heavyweight champion, two-time light heavyweight champion, an Olympic wrestling alternate, and at 45 the oldest champion in MMA history. In the third film he is benched with the rest of the old guard when Barney blames himself for Caesar's shooting and disbands the team, and he returns with the other veterans for the rescue.
