In Brian De Palma's Scarface (1983), Al Pacino's Tony Montana climbs from Cuban refugee to Miami cocaine kingpin, but his supply comes from higher up the chain: Alejandro Sosa, the Bolivian producer played by Paul Shenar, who runs his operation from a mountain estate and keeps himself several steps removed from the street violence Tony lives in.
On Sosa's wrist is a Cartier Tank. Louis Cartier designed the Tank in 1917, its flat rectangular case and side brancards said to echo the overhead view of a Renault tank, and it has been the archetype of the understated dress watch ever since, worn flat to the wrist on a leather strap.
