In the third season of The White Lotus, Saxon Ratliff travels with watch cases visible inside his luggage, a detail the show's prop master, Michael Cory, put there on purpose. Saxon brought three watches to a Thai resort. Patrick Schwarzenegger plays him as the elder Ratliff son, a finance-firm striver who runs on protein and dealmaking. Of the three, the Rolex Milgauss is the one that says where he comes from.
The Milgauss is Rolex's watch for scientists, introduced in 1956 to resist magnetic fields and named for the thousand gauss it was built to shrug off. Saxon's is the modern steel version, the one with an orange lightning-bolt seconds hand under a sapphire crystal tinted faintly green. Cory picked it to tie Saxon to his parents, who both wear gold Rolex Day-Dates, and to set him apart in the same move. It is a Rolex, the family brand, but the oddball of the line, with more personality than the hyper-traditional Day-Dates his mother and father wear.
There are no diamonds on it and no gold, just an anti-magnetic movement and a dial that plays it straight until the bolt catches the light. Rolex discontinued the Milgauss in 2023, so the Rolex that Cory picked to give Saxon a little distance from his parents is one the brand no longer makes. It is the subtlest watch he packed, hiding under the noise of everything else he wears.
