In the Georgia woods at night, shooting the scene where Owen Wilson's character finds a crashed UFO and is thrown back by the blast, the bezel of a vintage Heuer Autavia popped off and was never found. Nobody noticed until the next day, when director Henry Joost looked at the monitor and thought the watch looked wrong. By then it was gone, so watch Secret Headquarters closely and the Autavia has its bezel in some scenes and not in others.
The watch was Joost's own. He directs with Rel Schulman, the pair behind Catfish, and for Wilson's role as Jack Kincaid, a suburban dad who is secretly the superhero called The Guard, Joost handed over his personal Autavia ref. 2446C: a 1960s chronograph with a reverse panda dial in matte black and a pressure-sealed caseback good to 100 meters. He gave Wilson a backstory to go with it. "In my mind, it was a gift from your character's father," Joost said. "And it kind of fits the character because it was designed to be this land, sea, and air watch."
The Autavia took its name from automobile and aviation, and Joost's logic was that a hero who fights and flies in every element should wear a watch built for all of them.
