In Special Ops: Lioness, Nicole Kidman plays Kaitlyn Meade in a dark tailored suit, composed and unreadable, the senior CIA officer who sits above the field work and decides which operations are worth the bodies they will cost. She is the show's cold center, the woman signing off on violence that other people carry out, and Kidman gives her the stillness of someone who stopped being surprised by any of it a long time ago.
By MTM's own account, Meade wears the Black Cobra 35, the same blacked-out tactical chronograph the company places on Zoe Saldana's Joe, the station chief who runs the field team Meade oversees. MTM credits both placements on its media page, along with Thad Luckinbill in the Black Silencer. It is a real watch from the brand's Special Ops line, about 1,865 dollars: a 35mm case machined from Grade-2 titanium under a black DLC coating, a Miyota quartz movement with a one-hour chronograph and a dual-time fourth hand, a sapphire crystal and a screw-down crown, water resistant to 100 meters.
MTM builds the Cobra for operators. Meade runs Lioness from the office and never goes into the field, and most of what the watch is made to survive, the 100-meter seal and the locking crown, is beside the point there. The part that fits is quiet: the fourth hand tracks a second time zone, the one feature someone coordinating field teams in other time zones would actually use. The 35 is the small version of the case, the one MTM markets to smaller wrists, and the woman who runs the program and the woman who runs the field end up in the same blacked-out watch, closer to issued kit than to anything either of them chose.
