Most screen watches arrive on a wrist and stay there. Fast & Furious 6 (2013) does something rarer: it stages the acquisition. Around forty-two minutes in, Tej Parker walks into a luxury car auction with Hobbs, buys out the room to settle a grudge, and on the way out relieves the snobbish salesman of the watch on his own wrist, holding it up for Hobbs and a near-fullscreen beat before strapping it on. The watch is a Carl F. Bucherer Patravi AutoDate TwoTone, a 38 millimeter automatic in steel and 18 karat rose gold from the Lucerne house founded in 1888.

The scene did real work for the brand. The watch press reported that after the Taiwan premiere the model sold out in every shop in the city, carried by the buzz of that one beat. Carl F. Bucherer's chief executive has described the company's approach to film as a matter of script relevance, placements that fit naturally into the action rather than rented wrists, and the auction scene is the version of that philosophy the franchise audience actually saw: the fast-talking tech man of Dom's crew taking his payment in horology. The same placement habit put the brand in John Wick and The Coldest City in the years that followed.
