Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) charts Jordan Belfort's rise from junior broker to stock-fraud kingpin, and his watches climb with him. The film's prop master, Robert Griffon Jr., built a deliberate watch progression, later documented by Hodinkee.
In his flush period, Belfort wears what most people would take for a gold Rolex GMT-Master, yellow and gleaming on a Jubilee bracelet. It is a TAG Heuer 1000 Professional, gold-plated rather than solid gold, one of the affordable Rolex alternatives TAG sold in the late 1980s, and it reads as a TAG because Leonardo DiCaprio was a TAG Heuer ambassador. Belfort flings it into a crowd of grabbing brokers, the gold case spinning over their heads, and by the end he has traded the modest Seiko he started in for a real 18-karat-gold TAG Heuer 2000.
