Leonardo DiCaprio wears a TAG Heuer 2000 Series

Two and a half hours into The Wolf of Wall Street, an FBI agent named Patrick Denham, played by Kyle Chandler, puts a wire on Jordan Belfort and explains that he will have to give up his associates. Look at Belfort's wrist while it happens. There, as Leonardo DiCaprio plays the scene, is a gold TAG Heuer 2000 with a diamond bezel, the last and most expensive of the watches Belfort wears in the film.

It is the real thing, and in this movie that cannot be assumed: Donnie Azoff's gold Rolex Daytona is a replica, and the TAG Heuer 1000 Belfort wears through his rise looks like solid gold but is gold-plated, convincing enough that watch enthusiasts have long taken it for a yellow gold Rolex GMT-Master. The third-act watch is the reference WN5141, a TAG Heuer 2000 in actual 18-karat gold with diamonds set into the bezel and a sapphire on the crown, and the film's prop master, Robert R. Griffon Jr., put its cost at about 40,000 dollars. TAG had released the 2000 in the late 1990s as a push upmarket; the line flopped and is mostly forgotten. The quickest way to tell Belfort's two gold TAGs apart is the bracelet, a jubilee on the 1000 and larger links with a polished center section on this one.

The watch reached the set because of the actor rather than the character. DiCaprio was a TAG Heuer ambassador, and Griffon recalls that after the actor made a call to the brand, a town car pulled up and a woman handed him a bag full of watches, from which DiCaprio chose two for Belfort. The film even gives Belfort a number: he boasts of facing his problems in a 2,000 dollar suit and a 40,000 dollar gold watch, which is almost exactly what the solid-gold TAG cost. It is the gold-plated 1000, though, that ended up on the film's theatrical poster, its brand legible on the dial. After the shoot wrapped, both TAGs sat in a safe in Griffon's prop trailer for nearly a year, until Paramount called to ask for them for photoshoots.
