Jeffrey Wright wears a Hamilton Khaki X-Wind Automatic

Felix Leiter has always been Bond's mirror from the cheap seats. Where 007 gets Omega Seamasters and tailored Tom Ford, Leiter, the CIA's man, wears something you could actually buy on a government salary. Jeffrey Wright plays him in Quantum of Solace as a conflicted figure, an agent pushed into backing a Bolivian strongman because American foreign policy requires it, doing it even though he knows it is wrong. Marc Forster shot the film as a direct sequel to Casino Royale, picking up minutes after that story ended, and Wright's Leiter is caught between his friendship with Bond and his obligations to a cynical employer.

The Hamilton Khaki X-Wind Automatic on his wrist is an aviation chronograph with a crosswind correction calculator built into the bezel, a genuine pilot's tool for working out drift angles on approach. It is a complicated watch that looks busy rather than expensive, with layered subdials and a calculator bezel most owners will never use as intended. On Leiter it reads as a professional's instrument: a stainless steel case and a black dial with light subdials on a plain brown leather strap, with nothing about it that suggests luxury. This is a man who does the same job as Bond without the Aston Martin or the dinner jacket.
