Iko Uwais made his name as the hero. The Raid and its sequel built his reputation on fight choreography of unusual precision, and in Scott Waugh's Expend4bles, released in September 2023, he crosses the line to play Rahmat, the arms dealer at the center of the warhead theft the Expendables are sent to stop. The production still catches the assignment in one frame: he walks off a burning battlefield with a knife in each hand, plate carrier over a tan jacket, a tank smoking behind him, and a black watch on his knife-hand wrist.
G-Central, the G-Shock specialist site, identified the watch as a GX-56, most likely the blackout GX-56BB-1 with its inverted LCD, light digits on a dark screen. The GX-56 is one of the largest watches Casio makes, 55.5 millimeters across and 17.5 thick, with Alpha Gel shock absorbers inside the case and mud-resistant guards over the buttons. On this production it also marks the bottom rung of a deliberate wrist hierarchy: Stallone, Statham, and Lundgren wear Panerai Luminors, the newer recruits wear MTM tactical watches the brand logged on its own site, and the villain gets the blacked-out Casio.
The film missed. It grossed 51 million dollars against a 100 million dollar budget, a box-office bomb with the franchise's lowest audience grade, and Uwais's choreography drew much of what praise there was. The watch fits the part he was given: oversized, armored, and built to take a hit, in a film where he delivers most of them.
