Takers (2010) is John Luessenhop's heist movie about a crew that lives like royalty between scores. Idris Elba plays Gordon Jennings, the leader, alongside Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen, Chris Brown, and Michael Ealy, with Matt Dillon as the detective working the case and T.I. as the recently paroled member who drags them into one last job. In the shot here, Jennings leans on a glass balcony rail above the Los Angeles skyline, and a gold watch sits on his wrist.
The French magazine Montres-de-luxe identifies it as a Rolex Day-Date in yellow gold on a President bracelet. The Day-Date is the watch Rolex reserves for precious metals only, gold or platinum, and it was the first wristwatch to spell out the day of the week in full across the top of the dial when it launched in 1956. The bracelet Rolex built for it, three rounded links across, became known as the President, and the name stuck to the watch through the decades of heads of state who wore it.
In the still the dial faces down toward the railing, so what the frame actually settles is the part that is hardest to mistake: solid yellow gold, on the unmistakable President bracelet. The Day-Date reading itself is the magazine's call.
