The Expendables 3 opens on a prison train: Barney's crew rides down the transport to pull out Doctor Death, a former member, the team medic and knife man, from years in a dictator's fortress camp. Gunner Jensen is in the raiding party. Then Caesar gets shot, Barney blames himself for it, disbands the Expendables, and goes recruiting for younger replacements. Gunner is benched with the rest of the old guard, and when the new hires are captured and Barney sets out to mount the rescue alone, the veterans turn up anyway, alongside the film's new wild card Galgo, and Gunner fights the last battle with the team he started with. Dolph Lundgren plays him through all of it.
The watch on his wrist sits on four other wrists in the same cast. Stallone picked the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Amagnetic 3 Days Automatic Titanio, reference PAM00389, for the team, and the watch census taken when the film opened in August 2014 lists the same model on Lundgren, Statham, Jet Li, Couture, and Crews. The PAM00389 is 47 millimeters of titanium with a ceramic bezel, rated to 300 meters, running Panerai's in-house P.9000 movement for three days on a wind, with a soft-iron cage around the movement that shields it from magnetic fields. It was the first antimagnetic watch Panerai ever built, and the first Luminor to carry a ceramic bezel.
