Bud Fox starts Wall Street (1987) wearing a Lorus, a gold-toned quartz dress watch that suits a junior broker trying to look the part on a small salary. As Gordon Gekko pulls him into insider trading and the money arrives, the Lorus gives way to a gold Cartier Panthère. Oliver Stone tracks Fox's corruption partly through what ends up on his wrist.

Cartier launched the Panthère in 1983, a quartz watch with a square case, rounded corners, and an unusually supple five-row gold link bracelet that drapes like fabric. Fox's is full yellow gold with a white dial. Watch writers tend to read it against Gekko's Cartier Santos in the same film: the same brand, a step down the hierarchy, the lighter and showier of the two.
