It took me a couple of rewatches to notice that Brad Pitt wears two watches as Rusty Ryan in Ocean's Thirteen, and the better one hides in plain sight. Half the heist runs on a disguise: Rusty goes undercover as a hippie seismologist - "Rusty the Scientist" - in a shaggy wig, glasses, and a fake mustache, sent in to plant a hidden camera in a seismograph and sell Willy Bank on an earthquake threat. The whole getup is built to pull your eye to the wig. So of course that is exactly where they hung the most interesting watch in the film.
It is a custom build from Red Monkey Designs in Los Angeles, and Pitt already knew the shop. He had worn their Gentleman's Classic in The Mexican back in 2001, then came back for Ocean's Thirteen wanting something with more heft. What they made him is a Citizen quartz chronograph in a 46mm black-plated stainless steel case - big for 2007 - under a hardened mineral crystal, on a Red Monkey signature leather band two and five-eighths inches wide.
Here is the part I like. By Red Monkey's own account, the watch became a favorite in Pitt's personal collection, and he made sure to feature it on Rusty the Scientist, the most heavily disguised character he plays in the movie. In his sharp suits, Rusty wears a solid-gold Rolex GMT-Master II. The one watch Pitt loved enough to keep, he saved for the scenes where the entire point is that you do not recognize him.
