Midway through Ridley Scott's House of Gucci (2021), Patrizia spots counterfeit Gucci bags on New York street vendors' tables and brings the problem to Aldo, and Al Pacino's Aldo shrugs it off; he would rather Gucci be a household name than a guarantor of quality. That is the man Pacino plays, the eldest son of founder Guccio and the chairman who pushed a Florentine leather house into a global luxury brand, and the watch the production gave him is a Breguet Classique Moonphase: 39 millimeters of gold with a grand feu enamel dial, a moonphase and a power reserve indicator on the upper dial, worn on brown leather through his pinstriped, silver-bouffant scenes.

Every watch publication that reviewed the film made the same identification and raised the same objection. The Classique Moonphase line, Breguet's reference 7787 family, entered the collection in 2011, decades after the film's predominantly 1980s timeline. Worn & Wound called it "a chic gold dress watch that you absolutely believe Aldo would wear," then noted that while Breguet built watches in this style in the 1980s, the brand back then was climbing out of the quartz crisis, years from its acquisition by the Swatch Group, with a very different standing than it holds today. The liberty ran through the whole wardrobe: Jeremy Irons's Rodolfo wears a Vacheron Constantin Overseas with a bezel design that appeared in 1996 and a rubber strap the line first offered in 2006. D'Marge's verdict on the film's watches covers them all: "In this instance, aesthetic is more important than accuracy."
