David Leitch's Bullet Train (2022), adapted from Kotaro Isaka's 2010 novel, loads a Kyoto-bound bullet train with assassins and one briefcase of cash. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Tangerine, half of a British pair with Brian Tyree Henry's Lemon; the two work as twins, and Lemon filters every job through his obsession with Thomas the Tank Engine. Tangerine is the tailored half. In the still here he leans against a bulkhead with blood on his collar, arms crossed over a navy pinstripe waistcoat, a gold pendant at his chest, a gold ring on one hand, and a small gold watch on a black leather strap. The film earned 239.3 million dollars on mixed reviews and a B plus from audiences.

BAMF Style identified the watch: a vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual in yellow gold, 32 millimeters, the type collectors call the Bubbleback for 'the domed expansion over the back of the case to safely house the thick self-winding movement that Rolex had pioneered in the early 1930s.' The design stayed in the catalog for over two decades until it 'was discontinued after 1955.' The dial is the rarer half of the identification: a light gold California dial, Roman numerals across the top half and Arabic numerals across the bottom, which BAMF dates as 'a 1940s rarity' and traces to a dial firm based in California. The strap is 'a black edge-stitched leather bracelet.' On screen the gold case and pale dial ride a fully tattooed forearm.

Among the watches on this train, Tangerine's is the antique. Brad Pitt's Ladybug wears a Breitling reissued from a 1953 design; Tangerine's Rolex predates that design by roughly a decade. The film never explains where his watch came from. BAMF reads the gold pieces together, watch, pendant, and ring, as the costume of 'a stylish contract killer,' which is also a fair description of how Tangerine would put it himself.
