Yaphet Kotto plays Kananga in Live and Let Die, a Caribbean dictator who doubles as Harlem crime lord Mr. Big, planning to give away free heroin across America to wipe out the competition and hook millions of new addicts. Guy Hamilton directed this 1973 Bond film, Roger Moore's first time as 007 after Sean Connery stepped away. Kotto plays Kananga with a calm authority that actually makes him threatening, staying understated while surrounded by voodoo imagery and various henchmen.

The film drags Bond through New Orleans, the fictional island of San Monique, and Harlem, borrowing heavily from the blaxploitation movies popular at the time. Jane Seymour plays Solitaire, a tarot reader whose psychic powers depend on her virginity, which Bond predictably takes care of. Kotto was one of the few Black actors to play a Bond villain, and he brings more weight to the role than the script really earned. The film has that famous boat chase through the Louisiana bayous, Bond escaping crocodiles by literally running across their backs, and a Paul McCartney theme song that still holds up as one of the best. His watch has not been identified.
