William Hurt wears a Caravelle Automatic

Ned Racine is a Florida lawyer who is not as smart as he thinks, which is the whole engine of Body Heat. He falls for Matty Walker, played by Kathleen Turner in her first film, and lets himself be talked into killing her husband. Lawrence Kasdan, fresh off a run as a screenwriter, made the 1981 noir his first film as a director. William Hurt plays Racine, with Ted Danson, Richard Crenna, and a young Mickey Rourke around him.

On Racine's left wrist is a gold-plated Caravelle automatic on an expanding band. Caravelle was the budget line Bulova launched in 1962, pitched as Swiss quality at an everyday price. BAMF Style, reading a close-up in the film, describes a plain round white dial with italicized numerals, each marked by a luminous dot, under a crystal that has clearly taken some knocks, and small print at the foot of the dial that gives this particular watch away as West German.
