Robert Neville sets the alarm on his Victorinox ST-4000 every morning using a Farmer's Almanac. The alarm tells him when to stop hunting deer on the empty streets of Manhattan and get back inside before sunset. After dark, the Darkseekers come out. Francis Lawrence directed I Am Legend (2007), adapted by Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman from Richard Matheson's 1954 novel. Will Smith plays Neville alone for most of the runtime, a military virologist immune to the virus that turned the rest of New York into something between vampire and feral animal. Alice Braga shows up late as a fellow survivor.
The ST-4000 is an ana-digi watch from Victorinox's Swiss Army line. It has both analog hands and a digital display, which gives it the alarm function Neville depends on. Neville also appears to wear a second watch on the other wrist, possibly a Hamilton Khaki X-Wind as a mechanical backup. Wearing two watches is unusual on screen but makes sense for a man living alone in a dead city. If one breaks, there is no watchmaker left to fix it. The digital alarm is what keeps Neville alive. A mechanical watch cannot do that. Most movie watches are decoration. This one is a survival tool.
