Robert Neville's survival in I Am Legend (2007) runs on two watches. Will Smith plays the virologist alone in an emptied Manhattan, and the Victorinox on his left wrist carries the alarm that tells him when to run for home before the Darkseekers wake. The second watch sits on his right wrist: a Hamilton Khaki X-Wind automatic chronograph, visible briefly in the scene where Neville injects himself with his serum. Worn & Wound's screen-watch column walked through the X-Wind's mirror-image layout, the day and date at 9 o'clock with crown and pushers on the left side of the case, and read the mechanical movement as a sensible backup for a man whose life depends on beating sunset home.
The column also recorded a pre-release wrinkle. Hamilton's press materials originally announced the Khaki Sunset for the film, a watch that lists sunset times for the 15th of each month in six cities. New York is not one of the six. Whoever swapped it for the two watches Neville actually wears, Worn & Wound concluded, "made a smart one from a usefulness standpoint."
