Peter Neal writes mysteries, and someone in Rome has started using them as instructions. In Dario Argento's Tenebre (1982), Anthony Franciosa plays Neal, an American novelist who flies in for a book tour and finds the city restaging the killings from his pages. Argento wrote the screenplay himself, and it is one of his most self-referential films: a horror director making a movie about an artist whose work is blamed for real violence.

Neal is said to wear a Rolex GMT-Master "Pepsi," the version with the red-and-blue bezel that lets a traveler read a second time zone at a glance. Rolex built the GMT-Master in the mid-1950s with Pan American pilots in mind, for travelers crossing time zones.
