Colonel Miles Quaritch runs the RDA security operation on Pandora with the bearing of a man who has been in too many wars to be impressed by an alien moon. Stephen Lang plays him as a career military officer who delivers his briefings like motivational speeches for a fight he has already decided to start. Quaritch is the antagonist of Avatar (2009), but Lang refused to play him as a cardboard villain. He has said that if he did not love the character, no one would, and that he wanted audiences to take Quaritch seriously rather than dismiss him.
The watch on Quaritch's wrist is a Casio, and on screen it reads as a black, round-cased digital watch. In a survey of modern and out-of-period watches in film, the watch publication Worn & Wound identified the Casios worn by Quaritch, Jake Sully, and Trudy Chacon as G-Shocks, calling them sensible choices for the Marine characters. The exact model is not legible in the frame, and a competing identification names a Casio Pro Trek instead.
