Will Reiser wrote the screenplay for 50/50 from his own cancer diagnosis at 25, and Seth Rogen basically plays himself — the friend who showed up, said the wrong things, and never left. Jonathan Levine directed the 2011 film with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the patient and Rogen as Kyle, a guy who processes his best friend's illness through inappropriate jokes and a poorly timed scheme to use the diagnosis to pick up women.
Kyle wears a white-dialed chronograph on a brown leather strap — visible in the office scenes where he's leaning over cubicle walls pretending to work. It looks like a mid-range fashion watch, the kind a guy in his late twenties buys without much research. The brand hasn't been identified. The film works because Rogen plays the role with a real understanding of how people who aren't dying try to help people who might be.
