Roger Moore wears a Seiko T001-5000

Bond gets a television on his wrist. The Seiko T001-5000 is a liquid crystal TV watch that Seiko released in 1982 for 108,000 yen in Japan, about $495 in the United States. John Glen directed Octopussy, and the TV watch appears during a Q Branch scene where Bond picks it up and later uses it during the climactic assault on Kamal Khan's palace, receiving footage from cameras mounted on a hot air balloon.

The production used a prototype that differed from the retail model in case shape and logo placement. The real T001-5000 had a 1.2-inch LCD screen, weighed considerably more than a normal watch, and required a separate receiver unit connected by a cable, making the self-contained version Bond wears a polite fiction. Seiko sold a few thousand units and discontinued the line. It was a remarkable piece of 1980s technology that nobody actually wanted to wear every day.

Moore wears a second Seiko in the same film, the G757-5020 tracking device. Moore's Bond films were the peak of Seiko's deal with Eon Productions, and Octopussy is where the gadget watches reached their most absurd extreme. A wrist-mounted television in 1983 was genuinely futuristic. It was also genuinely impractical, which is what makes it perfect for this era of Bond.
