Sydney Pollack directed Havana, his seventh and final collaboration with Robert Redford. Redford plays Jack Weil, a professional poker player who arrives in Cuba in December 1958, just as Batista's government is collapsing and Castro's revolution is closing in. Lena Olin co-stars as Bobby Duran, the wife of a revolutionary, and Alan Arkin plays a casino operator trying to get out before the new regime shuts everything down.
Weil wears an all-yellow gold watch on his right wrist, on a flat gold bracelet, easy to see when he raises a cigarette in the back of a car. The gold runs to his fingers: for this role Redford set aside the silver ring he wore in most of his films and put on an ornate gold signet ring, right pinky, better suited to a gambler. He usually wore his own steel watches on camera, and Havana is one of the period roles where a delicate, ultra-slim yellow-gold piece went on instead. The maker has not been identified.
