Robert Redford wears a Doxa Sharkhunter

Joseph Turner reads books for the CIA. Not as a spy, not as an analyst in the traditional sense. His unit reads novels and magazines looking for plots that might accidentally describe real covert operations. Sydney Pollack's Three Days of the Condor (1975) opens with this mundane setup before killing everyone in Turner's office while he is out buying sandwiches. Robert Redford plays Turner as an intellectual forced into a physical world he is completely unprepared for, and the film never lets him become competent at violence. He survives on luck and speed of thought.

The Doxa Sharkhunter on his wrist is a 300-meter dive watch from the SUB 300T line, introduced in 1967 with a no-decompression bezel developed alongside Jacques Cousteau's diving team. It is a serious tool watch on a man who reads paperbacks for a living. Redford wore it on a thick black bund strap, an unusual choice for a dive watch, and it is widely reported to have been one of his own watches rather than a prop department piece, though that rests on rumor rather than documentation. The 43mm case with its matte black dial was one of the more aggressive dive watches available in the mid-1970s.
