A year before this, Richard Conte played Don Barzini in The Godfather. He had spent three decades in Hollywood, often cast as Italian-American tough guys, before the work moved to Europe and he began turning up in Italian crime films. Tony Arzenta (1973) is one of them, a Eurocrime picture directed by Duccio Tessari, who had made spaghetti westerns before the genre shifted to poliziotteschi. Alain Delon plays the hitman trying to retire. Conte plays Nick Gusto, the syndicate boss who orders Arzenta's last hit and then, when Arzenta wants out, joins the other bosses in ordering him dead. The car bomb they plant for Arzenta kills his wife and son instead, and the rest of the film is his revenge. Conte died two years later, at 65.

A single French watch site identifies the watch as a gold Van Cleef & Arpels on a lizard strap, citing no scene or still, and nothing else corroborates it. Van Cleef & Arpels is a Paris jewelry house, founded on the Place Vendôme in 1906, and like Cartier it has always made dress watches as an extension of its jewelry rather than tool watches. Where Gusto's wrist is visible, it carries a small gold watch on a dark strap, which matches that description without settling the brand.
