Alain Delon plays Tony Arzenta, a Milan hitman who wants out, in Duccio Tessari's 1973 poliziotteschi thriller. The film opens with Arzenta checking his watch before he leaves his wife and young son to drive to Turin for a job. When he tells the syndicate he is finished, the bosses decide to kill him, and the car bomb meant for him kills his wife and son instead. The rest is Arzenta working through the men responsible, one by one, in the fast cars and European locations the genre runs on. Delon plays it with his usual stillness.
Two articles identify the watch as a Baume & Mercier, and the French one adds that a close-up in the film shows the brand clearly: a steel Baumatic, the automatic line the company sold under that name in the period, on a matching steel bracelet. The brand is not in much doubt, though the model name comes from that one description. Baume & Mercier dates to 1830 and has long sat in the upper-middle of Swiss watchmaking, respected without the reach of Rolex or Patek Philippe.
